“If the owner of a document or item cannot be identified, it is stored at the Lost and Found Office for one month.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has clarified the procedure regarding lost items in the Baku Metro and the process of returning them to their owners.
In response to an inquiry, the ministry stated that found belongings are kept under special supervision for a certain period, while authorities take all necessary measures to identify and contact their owners.
The issue raises an important question for passengers: Which authorities should citizens contact, and how should they proceed if they lose personal belongings in the metro system?
Responding to Bizimyol.info, the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that all possible methods are used to determine the owner of a lost item.
According to Lumu Israfilli, items discovered in the metro are first handed over to the duty unit of the police department located at the station.
“When lost items are found in the Baku Metro by police officers, they are initially delivered to the duty section of the station’s police department,” Israfilli said. “The belongings are then stored in a special secure facility.”
He added that if the owner of a document or item cannot be identified, the belongings are transferred to the Lost and Found Office, where they are kept for one month.
“During this period, all possible measures are taken to identify the owner,” he noted. “If no one comes forward within that timeframe, the items are transferred to the relevant authorities in accordance with the law.”
The statement aims to reassure passengers that procedures are in place to protect lost belongings and improve the chances of recovering them through official channels.
