Turn signals — the right and left indicator lights on vehicles — are designed to alert other drivers when you intend to change lanes, turn, or overtake. They are activated using the signal lever on the steering column: lifting the lever turns on the right signal, while lowering it activates the left.
These lights are not just formalities; they are essential tools for ensuring road safety and communicating your intentions to other drivers. This short reminder is particularly for those motorists in Baku who either neglect to use their signals or perhaps never learned to do so properly.
Too often on the roads, one encounters drivers who make you wonder: “Who gave this person a driver’s license?” Some turn on the right signal but turn left, others signal left but continue straight, and many simply fail to use the indicators at all. Such drivers forget that roads belong to everyone, not just themselves, and behave as if others owe them a duty of constant vigilance. The result, unfortunately, is preventable accidents.
It must be remembered that indicators are to be used not only at intersections when turning right or left, but also on multi-lane and highway roads whenever changing lanes — whether you are leaving your lane, returning to it, or passing another vehicle.
Turn signals may be small lights, but they carry a big responsibility. Using them consistently and correctly is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and others on the road.
