Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stated that he was pleased with his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Bizimyol.info, Erdoğan made the remarks to journalists on his return from the United States. He emphasized that the talks were conducted in a “sincere, constructive, and productive” atmosphere, and expressed gratitude to President Trump and the U.S. delegation for their warm reception at the White House.
“We exchanged views on facilitating trade, including a review of customs tariffs. These are steps aimed at increasing the trade volume to $100 billion. We also held constructive discussions on initiatives that could pave the way for cooperation in the field of defense,” Erdoğan noted.
The Turkish leader said that the talks also covered trade and investment issues, as well as the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the Syrian conflict. “I support President Trump’s views on global peace,” Erdoğan added.
It is worth noting that during the meeting, Trump also shared his thoughts on the Gaza war. He did not rule out the possibility of a ceasefire agreement and a deal on the return of hostages being reached in the near future.
The Erdoğan-Trump meeting is being regarded as an important step toward strengthening bilateral relations. Historically, the United States and Turkey have cooperated in multiple areas; however, tensions have risen in recent years due to disagreements over Syria, Middle East policies, and trade disputes. This meeting is seen as a positive step toward addressing existing challenges and exploring new opportunities. Furthermore, agreements on expanding trade and enhancing defense cooperation could further solidify U.S.-Turkey relations in the future.
