Washington deal ends decades of hostility: Armenia and Azerbaijan sign historic peace accord under Trump’s mediation

Armenia and Azerbaijan have officially established peace by signing landmark documents in Washington, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during a live-streamed press conference.

“Today’s events are historic. For months, I have said there will be no war between Armenia and Azerbaijan — there will be peace. Today, we can say peace has been established, within the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our countries,” Pashinyan declared.

He added that the opening of communications and borders would attract billions of dollars in investment to Armenia’s economy, calling on citizens to “unite around the peace agenda.”

On Friday evening, Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with U.S. President Donald Trump mediating, signed a memorandum on lifting transportation blockades. A road passing through Armenia’s Syunik province to connect mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan will be named the “Trump Road.”
